CASAA – 2024 eCigIntelligence Vaper Survey

Since 2016 CASAA has been working cooperatively with ECigIntelligence, an independent information service focused on tracking regulatory change and market intelligence for the vape sector. CASAA assists them with their annual U.S. survey of adults who vape by helping them develop survey questions that aid us in our advocacy efforts and help take the pulse of the vaping community. As we do every year, CASAA is asking our members to participate in this year’s survey with the goal of collecting 5000 responses!

WHY SHOULD YOU PARTICIPATE?
The data collected from this survey will help inform regulators, advocates, and commentators as we all work to build policies that benefit consumers. The FDA in particular subscribes to this dataset and it can therefore serve as direct feedback on how their policies benefit or harm people who vape.

WHAT KIND OF QUESTIONS WILL YOU BE ASKED?
The survey takes about 10-15 minutes to complete, and will ask you a range of questions starting with general demographic information like your age, gender, race, what state you live in, and your household income. Only a few of these demographic questions are required, however, so you can skip any you’d prefer not to disclose. After that you’ll answer a range of questions about your history of tobacco and vapor product use. The survey is anonymous, and none of the information provided can or will be used to personally identify you. You have the option of supplying your email at the end of the survey if you’d like to receive a summary of the results.

Adults over the age of 21 living in the United States who currently use or previously used vapor and tobacco products are encouraged to participate.

Take Action – USPS Vape Mail Ban

To All Vapers, VapeSlingers and VapeWarriors,

During the final days of 2019, Congress passed a massive budget bill that included a ban on shipping vapor products to consumers through the USPS. Before the new regulation goes into effect, the US Postal Service is posting its proposed rule to gather feedback from the public. This is a normal part of the rulemaking process and provides an opportunity to point out deficiencies or conflicts that a new rule may suffer from. In this case, the publication is largely pro-forma as the directions from congress (at least some of them) are clear: Ban shipments of vapor products to consumers.

The USPS is seeking input on a few key questions. They involve the use of the term “tobacco product” and other issues related to weights-and-measures. While feedback from the public at this stage may not have a substantive effect on the final rule, there is a dire need for consumer stakeholders to make their voices heard–to both the USPS and members of Congress.

CASAA is providing specifics about what USPS is looking for in comments as well as an easy form to use for sending messages to both USPS and members of Congress. Picking apart the deficiencies in a proposed rule can be difficult, but don’t let that stand in the way of making your voice heard. Stick with what you know and keep it simple. It’s up to all of us to change the narrative about the people who make, sell, and use vapor products and why these products are working.

Citizen’s Petition requesting FDA Vapor PMTA delay

On August 25, Keller and Heckman LLP filed a Citizen’s Petition with the FDA requesting that the PMTA filing deadline of September 9, 2020 be delayed by 180 days. This petition is requesting that FDA go back to the US District Court for the District of Maryland to request a deadline extension, which the court recently granted for small cigar manufacturers that are being negatively impacted by this coronavirus pandemic.

If granted, the extension would move the deadline for small, open-system manufacturers to March 8, 2021. The request is predicated on a recent action taken by FDA in which small cigar manufacturers are being granted a similar extension due to complications and delays to completing PMTA’s associated with COVID-19.

It is vital that people who use vapor products make their voices heard! While this pandemic is obviously putting a strain on services for businesses, people who depend on safer nicotine alternatives in order to stay smoke-free are being even more challenged by the prospects of losing access to these products and feeling pressured to go back to smoking. Whether it’s by regulation or global disaster, removing vapor products from the market threatens to inflict irreversible harm to millions of people.
